Brix/Refractive Index Calibrations

Brix/Refractive Index Calibrations

On-site or laboratory calibration, with a personalized and flexible service. Delivery time: 5 days.

Calibration consists of establishing, under specific conditions, the relationship between the values measured by a piece of equipment and the reference values traceable to recognized standards.

This relationship allows the client to evaluate the instrument's performance and ensure the validity of its measurements. Calibration is performed on both manual and digital refractometers, guaranteeing the metrological traceability of results across different scales.

Refractive Index (nD) Calibration Refractive index calibration is based on determining, under temperature control, the relationship between the refractometer reading and reference values, using the physical principle of light refraction. This control is essential in various industrial sectors, where purity and composition depend directly on the refractive index.

Brix Degrees (%Brix) Calibration Brix calibration focuses on the scale that measures the amount of sugar present in a substance. This scale is fundamental in the agri-food industry (honey, jams, tomatoes) and in oenology (determination of alcohol in musts).

Other scales Eyco has the technical capacity to perform calibrations on different scales such as Glucose, Fructose or °Baumé.

What equipment do we calibrate?

Manual Refractometers The use of this equipment requires the intervention of a qualified laboratory technician. With these instruments, measurements are taken through direct observation, making the operator's training and experience essential to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of the results.

Digital Refractometers Digital refractometers are equipped with a light source, a prism, and an optical sensor, enabling automatic measurement. This design significantly reduces operator influence.

Brix/Refractive Index Calibrations

Calibration with and without ATC (Temperature Compensation) Since temperature directly affects the measured values (nD and %Brix), many instruments incorporate Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC). At Eyco, we have the technical expertise to calibrate both refractometers with and without ATC, maintaining strict control of environmental conditions to ensure the accuracy of the measurements.

Calibration Description Specifically, for refractometers, Eyco performs calibration of accuracy on the refractive index or % Brix scales.

Calibration at the points requested by the client, within the reach or range of the equipment

Determination of the repeatability of the equipment.
Calibration for a measurement scale.

Possibility of performing the calibration on other scales, outside the scope of ENAC: Glucose, fructose, inverted sugar, ºBaumé, %vol.

Why Is This Important?

Refractometer calibration is crucial to ensure accuracy in controlling the concentration and composition of substances, with a direct impact on product quality and compliance with specifications in the food and chemical sectors.

The result

Once your equipment has been calibrated by the expert staff at Eyco Laboratories, you will receive a Calibration Certificate backed by accreditation. ENAC. Said Certificate includes the complete identification of your equipment, the procedure that the laboratory has followed to carry out the calibration and the result of the same.

The result of the calibration is a correction along with its uncertainty. This correction is the difference between the reference standard value and the value measured by your equipment.

From the correction values and their uncertainty, you can establish the acceptance and rejection values of the equipment.

In addition, together with your equipment, you will receive a calibration label with the certificate number, the identification of the equipment and the date of calibration.
