Optical Power calibrations
On-site or laboratory calibration, with a personalized and flexible service. Delivery time: 5 days.
Calibration consists of establishing, under specific conditions, the relationship between the values measured by a piece of equipment and the reference values traceable to recognized standards.
This relationship allows the client to evaluate the instrument's performance and ensure the validity of its measurements, an essential process for guaranteeing quality and accuracy in the field of optometry. Calibration is applied to standard lenses and focimeters, instruments used to measure the optical power of ophthalmic lenses, the unit of measurement for which is the diopter (µm).−1), ensuring the metrological traceability of the results.
Optical Power Calibration Optical power calibration ensures the accuracy of measurements taken with the focimeter. This process is performed using recognized lens standards traceable to the International System of Units (SI), in accordance with recommendations from standards such as UNE-EN ISO 9642-1. The goal is to guarantee that the lens has the required power for correcting refractive errors.
What equipment do we calibrate?
Focimeters This is the standard instrument used for measuring the front and back power of ophthalmic lenses. Proper calibration of the lens gauge is crucial to ensure that optical power measurements are correct and accurate, allowing for the timely detection of any errors or drift associated with the use or aging of the components.
Standards Lens Sets The set of standard lenses used to verify and calibrate the focimeters themselves must also be calibrated periodically.
Why Is This Important?
Accuracy in measuring optical power is crucial for visual health and patient satisfaction, as it ensures that corrective glasses or lenses meet the prescribed prescription.
- Health guarantee: It is essential to ensure that ophthalmic lenses have the required power to correct refractive errors, directly impacting the user's visual quality.
- Traceability and regulatory compliance: The calibration, in accordance with UNE-EN ISO 9642-1, guarantees that the measurements are traceable to internationally recognized standards, ensuring compliance with quality standards in the optical sector.
- Quality control: Periodic calibration of focimeters and lens standards allows for the identification and correction of equipment deviations caused by wear or use, ensuring the reliability of measurements over time.
- Error reduction: Avoiding incorrect measurements prevents the manufacture of lenses with incorrect power, minimizing returns, rework, and the costs associated with a lack of accuracy.
The certificate
Once your equipment has been calibrated by Eyco's expert staff, you will receive a Calibration Certificate backed by the ENAC accreditation. Said Certificate includes the complete identification of your equipment, the procedure that the laboratory has followed to carry out the calibration and the result of the same.
For focimeters, the calibration result is a correction along with its uncertainty. The correction is the difference between the reference standard value and the value measured by your instrument. For standard lenses, the calibration result is the optical power value in diopters along with its uncertainty for each standard lens.
From the correction values and their uncertainty, you can establish the acceptance and rejection values of the equipment.
In addition, along with your equipment or standard, you will receive a calibration label with the certificate number, equipment identification, and calibration date.
