Ophthalmic optics and eye protection tests
Specialists in quality control of sunglasses and reading glasses.
Ophthalmic optics testing is essential to verify the optical and mechanical properties of products such as sunglasses, reading glasses and eye PPE, ensuring that they comply with international and European safety regulations.
In the case of sunglasses, although they are classified as Category I PPE, their quality must be validated through tests that determine, among other things, their filter category, the UV protection they offer, the degree of polarization and the diffusion of light, in accordance with international standards.
At the same time, reading glasses (or pre-assembled glasses) must be subjected to analysis to confirm that the positive spherical power of their lenses corresponds to that indicated on the labeling, guaranteeing functionality for near vision for users.
Another type of test is the one dedicated to lenses with blue light blocking filters (blue lensesAlthough a specific absorption percentage is not required, it is essential that manufacturers verify and accurately declare the percentage of blue light absorbed (between 380 nm and 500 nm) to avoid misleading advertising.
For all eye protection PPE, the 'CE' marking and compliance with harmonized standards are mandatory, guaranteeing protection against harmful radiation, impacts or chemical splashes.
Why Is This Important?
It is crucial to conduct ophthalmic optics and eye protection tests to preserve the user's visual health and ensure legal compliance of products. These tests verify that lenses offer the correct optical power and adequate protection against harmful radiation (UV, blue light, IR) and impacts—fundamental elements for workplace and everyday safety. Ensuring compliance with regulations (such as the ISO 12312-1 o JOIN IN 14139) provides a guarantee of quality to the manufacturer or distributor, and certainty of safety and effectiveness to the end consumer.
How do we do it
At Eyco, we specialize in evaluating the optical and mechanical properties of products such as sunglasses, reading glasses, and lenses. blue light and eye protection PPE. We have the technical capacity to determine the filter category and UV protection of sunglasses (ISO 12312), the spherical power of reading glasses (JOIN IN 14139), and the percentage of blue light absorption. In addition, we conduct tests for PPE according to harmonized standards. JOIN IN 167 (optical tests), JOIN IN 168 (non-optical tests) and those specific to UV filters (JOIN IN 170) or occupational sun protection (JOIN IN 172), ensuring strict compliance with current regulations.
The result
Each test performed by Eyco is documented in a technical report that includes:
- The identification and description of the sample
- The standardized methods applied
- Test conditions
- The equipment used
- The results obtained
- Measurement uncertainty
The data is presented in a clear and traceable manner, meeting the necessary quality requirements.
