Color measurement in translucent and liquid materials

Eyco is accredited ENAC to perform tests on translucent solids and liquids, which, according to the guidelines of the CIE No. 15, please allow:

• The determination of chromatic coordinates CIE, in geometry 0º:0º, 0º:di.
• The determination of color differences, according to the CIELab system, in 0º:0º, 0º:di geometry.

Furthermore, at Eyco we have the technical capacity to offer color measurement services in accordance with different international standards, including the following:

• ISO 11664-1 Colorimetry.
• ASTM E308:2008. Standard Practice for Computing the Colors of Objects by Using the CIE System.
• ASTM D2244. Standard Practice for Calculation of Color Tolerances and Color Differences from Instrumentally Measured Color Coordinates.
• ASTM E313. Standard Practice for Calculating Yellowness and Whiteness Indices from Instrumentally Measured Color Coordinates.

On the other hand, Eyco has the technical capacity to carry out tests that use the Color Gardner scale for the measurement of transparent liquids, according to the standards:

• ASTM D1544, Standard Test Method for Color of Transparent Liquids (Gardner Color Scale).
• ASTM D6045, Standard Test Method for Color of Petroleum Products by the Automatic Tristimulus Method.
• ASTM D6166, Standard Test Method for Color of Pine Chemicals and Related Products (Instrumental Determination of Gardner Color)

To measure color in translucent solids and liquids, a color evaluation is performed based on the spectral transmittance data of the material.

In this way, it is possible to perform regular or diffuse transmittance measurements, with specular component included and excluded, depending on the material whose color is being evaluated.

Each test performed by Eyco is documented in a technical report that includes:

• The identification and description of the sample
• The standardized methods applied
• Test conditions
• The equipment used
• The results obtained
• Measurement uncertainty

The data is presented in a clear and traceable manner, meeting the necessary quality requirements.
